Welcome to another episode of the Journey Your Own Meditation Series with Jyothi V. Robertson. In this meditation, we explore the profound connection between our breath, our bodies, and our inner well-being.
Listen to the episode below.
The session begins with a brief introduction to Shamatha, a meditation practice emphasizing breath as the anchor to our awareness. This invites us to ground ourselves in the present moment, fostering a unique relationship with our bodies.
Our relationship with our bodies is often influenced by external perceptions and judgments. In this session, Jyothi encourages us to let go of these preconceived notions and embrace our bodies as they are. Through Shamatha, we find solace in the rhythm of our breath, reconnecting with the innate wisdom of our physical selves.
A body scan was also incorporated into the practice with the intention of releasing any tension and held beliefs we have about our bodies. It allows us to explore every part of our being, from head to toe, acknowledging any discomfort or tension. While this practice may initially pose challenges, Jyothi gently guides us to breathe through these sensations, releasing pent-up tension, anxiety, and long-held beliefs about ourselves.
By observing stray thoughts without judgment, we gradually become more comfortable with sitting with these sensations, ultimately letting go of negative self-perceptions. Through this practice, we rekindle our connection with our bodies, cultivating mindfulness and self-compassion.
If you seek to heal and reconnect with your body, this episode is for you. Join us on this journey of self-discovery, where body awareness and breath become tools for profound healing and transformation.
