Recent attention paid to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion has resulted in a fresh push by employers for people “who show up on the front of a ‘Come Work Here Ad’” to be authentic in the workplace, to bring their diverse perspectives and challenge old ways of thinking.
Unfortunately, much of this is lip service to inclusion instead of a true commitment to change. Even more troubling, oftentimes the workplace culture fails to support the authenticity of professionals of color and other underrepresented groups, resulting in backlash and fewer career opportunities.
Speaker Jodi-Ann Burey implores those in leadership positions to accept the responsibility for change, look to expose privilege, and sincerely work for true equity on the job.
