Starting your day with a smile can have a powerful impact on your well-being and overall outlook on life. In this guided meditation by Jyothi V. Robertson, we will walk you through a morning practice that focuses on smile meditation, a technique that involves bringing awareness to the sensations of the breath while maintaining a gentle smile on our lips.

We start by taking a few deep breaths as we settle into a natural rhythm, allowing ourselves to pause at the end of each inhalation and exhalation, and becoming curious about the sensations of our breath. We then gently allow a smile to come to our faces, noticing how it impacts different areas of our bodies where we are inviting it to enter with each breath.

We then draw our awareness to the sensations of smiling, noticing how it presents for us. We feel the energy of the breath as we breathe into the smile on our face and notice how it makes us feel to place a smile on our lips. We set our intention for the day, using the smile as a tool to stay present, open, and curious.

In the last few minutes of the meditation, we continue to notice the smile and how it affects our energy and intention for the day. We offer gratitude to ourselves for taking the time for this practice and recognize that we are part of a community, drawing from the collective energy of practicing together.

The smile meditation practice allows us to connect with our breath, cultivate joy and lightness, and set our intention for the day. By using the smile as an anchor, we can stay present, open, and curious, and carry the energy of the practice with us throughout our day.
